She’s carrying fruits.
But some women are carrying pain.
These lemons.
These watermelons.
These round, beautiful fruits.
They look harmlesss in my hands.
But inside many women, growths this size are not fruit.
They are fibroids.
Here’s what most people don’t know…
Up to 70–80% of women will develop fibroids before age 50.
Blac k women are 2–3 times more likely to develop them and at younger ages.
Some fibroids grow as large as a 9 month pregnancy.
Many women live with severe bleedinggg, cramps, anaemia, bloating, infertility, back pain, organssss being affected and silent emotional trauma while still going to work, caring for families, smiling in public.
And the most dangeroussss part?
We normalise it.
We call it “just heavy periods.”
We call it “just cramps.”
We call it “womanhood.”
We tell women to endure.
Fibroids are benign.
But the impact is not small.
This is why this awareness matters.
Because early scans matter.
Because listening to your body matters.
Because pain that disrupts your life is not “normal.”
Because silence keeps women suffering.
Today I carried fruit for a photograph.
But millions of women are carrying something far heavier.
